What is OBS Studio?

The Covid-19 ‘Shut Down’ during the Spring of 2020 caused many professional Santa Claus Portrayal Artists to ask, “What if this happened at Christmastime?”

Of course, like educators, the first thought that came to mind for many Santa was using the Internet, Zoom, Skype, Facebook, Google, all have the ability to facilitate ‘virtual visits’ with Santa Claus.

While virtual visits are nothing new for Santa Claus, many more Santas were now seeing these ‘video chats’ as, perhaps, the only way they could do their part in spreading Christmas cheer and being available for visits with children.

Enter Open Broadcaster Software also referred to as OBS. OBS is a free open source software suite that is used for recording and live streaming. You can use OBS to capture and record your screen while also capturing audio.

OBS allows Santa Claus portrayal artists to use a ‘green screen’ to maximize the authenticity of their virtual visits. Santas can also use physical photography backdrops or 3D sets with OBS.
